Privacy Policy for LifeBalance
Last Updated: October 15, 2026
Introduction
LifeBalance ("we", "our", or "the App") is a hydration app that sets a daily water goal that follows the weather where you are. This Privacy Policy explains what the App stores, what leaves your device, and the choices you have. The App has no account, no ads and no analytics.
Information Collection and Use
Data stored on your device
LifeBalance stores the following on your device only:
- Profile and family members: weight, height, age, gender and activity level for you and for each family member you add, and the member names you enter, used to calculate water goals.
- Water log: the amount, drink type and time of each drink you log, and the goal for each day.
- Movement: the workouts you log (type, minutes, intensity, time) and the step and exercise totals shown for today.
- Sleep: the nights you log, or read from Health Connect if you allow it (bedtime, wake time, quality).
- Mood check-ins: mood, energy, tags and the optional note you type.
- Breathing, habits and nutrition: breathing minutes, your habits and their daily check-offs, fruit and vegetable servings, meals and weight entries.
- Challenges and Balance history: the family challenges you create and the Balance score recorded for each day.
- Settings: your preferences, such as reminders, quick-add amounts, units and language.
- Chosen place: the city you picked, or the approximate area found with "Use my location", with its coordinates rounded to about 11 km.
- Cached forecast: the most recent weather forecast, so the App can work offline.
We do not receive any of this. It is never sent to us. Mood notes are sensitive and local-only. The notes you type in a mood check-in stay on your device. The App never sends them anywhere. They are included only in a backup file or Google Drive backup that you choose to create yourself. Wear OS watch (optional). If you install the LifeBalance watch app, the phone sends today's water intake, goal, Balance score, heat level, bottle size and your last few entries to your paired watch through Google Play services (device to device). Logs you make on the watch go back to the phone the same way. None of this goes to us or to any other server.
What leaves your device
To work out today's heat level, the App sends a request to MET Norway (api.met.no, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute), a third-party weather service. The request contains:
- Approximate coordinates, rounded to about 11 km (0.1 degrees). They come either from the city you search for or, only if you tap "Use my location" or turn on "Update with my location", from your device's approximate (coarse) location. MET Norway uses them to return the weather forecast for that area.
The App contacts MET Norway only while it is open (and not for background reminders), and keeps the forecast on your device so it asks rarely. Heat index, sunrise and sunset are calculated on your device.
If you are in India and the App was built with a data.gov.in key, it also asks data.gov.in (the Government of India's open data platform, with Central Pollution Control Board air quality data) for air quality readings. That request contains only the name of your state (for example "Tamil Nadu"), never coordinates. The App then picks the nearest monitoring station on your device.
City search happens on your device, from a built-in list of cities; the text you type is not sent anywhere.
Nothing else is sent. The App sends no name, no email, no account identifier, no advertising ID and no precise location. Like any internet request, MET Norway's and data.gov.in's servers can see your device's IP address. These are independent services with their own terms and privacy policies: MET Norway Terms of Service and data.gov.in. Weather data from MET Norway, licensed under CC BY 4.0. Air quality data from CPCB via data.gov.in, under the Government Open Data License - India.
The place name shown for your location is looked up on your device from a built-in list of cities (place names by GeoNames.org, CC BY 4.0); nothing is sent for it.
We do not sell your data or share it for advertising. Our servers are not involved; the App talks to MET Norway and data.gov.in directly from your device.
Location permission
- The App asks only for approximate (coarse) location. It never asks for precise location.
- It asks only when you tap "Use my location" or turn on "Update with my location". It reads your location only while the App is open: once when you tap the button, and each time you open the App if that setting is on.
- It never uses location in the background.
- The setting "Update with my location" is off by default. If you turn it on, the App re-checks your approximate location when you open it.
- You can decline the permission and search for a city instead.
Notifications
Reminders are optional and off by default. If you turn them on, they are scheduled on your device and do not need a server. On Android 13 and later the App asks for notification permission when you turn reminders on.
Health Connect (optional)
Health Connect is optional, off by default, and available on Android 9 and later. If you turn it on and grant permission:
- the App reads your steps and exercise sessions for today and the recent past, to adjust today's water goal and to show your history in the App. This is only shown on your phone; nothing is stored apart from the totals shown in the App, and nothing is sent anywhere,
- the App reads your sleep sessions from the last few days to show how long you slept (it never writes sleep data), and
- the App writes the water you log into Health Connect as hydration records.
This data stays on your device inside Health Connect. We never receive it, and the App does not send it to MET Norway, data.gov.in or anyone else. You can change or remove the permissions at any time in Health Connect. Records the App has written stay in Health Connect until you delete them there.
The use of information received from Health Connect will adhere to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Optional backup to your own Google Drive
The App can back up to your own Google Drive, but only if you choose to. It is off until you tap "Connect Google Drive" in Settings.
- What is stored: the same backup file the App can save to your phone: profile, water log, movement, sleep, mood check-ins (including notes), breathing, habits, nutrition, family members, challenges, Balance history and settings. Nothing else.
- Where: a hidden app folder (
appDataFolder) in your Google Drive. Only LifeBalance can open it, and it does not appear in your Drive files. It is covered by your Google account's own terms and privacy policy. - How it works: the backup goes straight from your phone to Google. It never passes through any server of ours and we never receive it. The App asks Google for the single permission "See, create, and delete its own configuration data in your Google Drive" (
drive.appdata) and gets no access to your other Drive files or your contacts. - Weekly backup: an optional setting. It runs on an unmetered (Wi-Fi) network and only if Google allows it without asking you again. It does nothing if this phone has no data yet, or if a backup from another phone or an earlier install is already on Drive and you have not chosen to replace it.
- Two copies: the App keeps at most two files in the hidden folder: the latest backup and the one before it (
lifebalance-backup.prev.json). If a backup already exists when you back up for the first time from a phone, the App asks whether to restore it or replace it. "Delete my Drive backup" removes both files. - Your control: you can restore from Drive, delete the Drive backup from inside the App, or disconnect Google Drive at any time. You can also remove the App's access in your Google Account settings, which deletes its hidden folder.
Apart from this optional feature, the App opts out of Android's automatic backup, so your data is not copied to the cloud unless you connect Google Drive.
Tips (Support LifeBalance)
LifeBalance is free and has no ads. You can optionally leave a tip through Google Play. The payment is handled entirely by Google Play, and we do not receive your name, email or payment details. A tip does not unlock anything; the App only remembers on your device that you tipped so it can show a thank-you badge.
Data Deletion
LifeBalance has no user accounts. Your profile, water log and settings exist only on your device, and we hold none of it.
There is no data deletion request process, because we hold no data to delete. You do not need to contact us or submit a request. You can delete all of it yourself at any time, and the deletion is immediate and permanent.
How to delete all of your data
Any of the following permanently erases your LifeBalance data from your device:
- Delete all data in the App. Open Settings → Delete all data. This erases everything listed above (profile and family members, water, movement, sleep, mood, breathing, habits, challenges, Balance history, settings, chosen place and cached forecast) and shared card images immediately, cancels reminders, disconnects Google Drive (revokes access, stops the weekly backup and forgets your account name), and returns the App to the first-time setup. If Google Drive is connected you can tick "Also delete my Google Drive backup" to delete the Drive files as well. The flags that record a tip or purchase are kept, so a purchase is not lost; they hold no personal data.
- Uninstall the app. Removing LifeBalance deletes its local storage.
- Clear the app's data without uninstalling. On Android, open Settings → Apps → LifeBalance → Storage → Clear data (the exact wording varies by device).
Water records the App wrote to Health Connect stay in Health Connect. You can delete them in the Health Connect app. If you used the optional Google Drive backup, tick "Also delete my Google Drive backup" in the delete dialog, or delete it first with Settings → Delete my Drive backup (or remove the App's access in your Google Account); those files (the latest backup and the previous copy) are in your own Drive, not with us.
Once deleted, this data cannot be recovered by you or by us. We hold no backups, copies or archives of it. A Google Drive backup you made is yours and is deleted as described above.
If you have any question about deleting your data, email us at support@numford.com and we will respond.
Third-Party Services
The third-party services the App contacts are MET Norway (weather forecast), in India data.gov.in (air quality), and, only if you choose them, Google Drive (your own backup) and Google Play (tips), as described above. The App has no analytics, advertising or tracking services. If you use Health Connect, that data is handled by Android's Health Connect under its own terms.
Not Medical Advice
LifeBalance gives a water goal and general tips. It is not medical advice and does not diagnose or treat any condition. If you have a heart or kidney condition, or any other medical condition, ask your doctor how much to drink. The heat levels shown in the App are the App's own estimate calculated from weather forecasts. They are not official government warnings. For official heat warnings, check your national or local weather authority.
Children's Privacy
LifeBalance does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App collects no personal information from anyone; it is intended for general audiences to track their daily water intake.
Data Security
Your data is stored on your device, so its security depends on your device's security settings. We recommend using a device passcode or biometric lock and keeping your operating system updated. Requests to MET Norway, data.gov.in and Google are sent over HTTPS.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with a new "Last Updated" date at the top of this document.
Your Rights
- Access: view your data anytime within the App.
- Modify: update your profile and settings at any time.
- Delete: erase everything at any time with Settings → Delete all data, by uninstalling, or by clearing the App's data. See the Data Deletion section above.
