The goal starts from your weight, height, age, gender and activity level. On top of that, the heat level for your place today raises it by 10 to 30 percent. The goal is capped at 5,000 ml. If you turn on Health Connect, a high step count or exercise on an active day can raise it a little more. You can also set your own goal by hand in Settings.

Each day the app looks at the forecast for your place and shows one of four levels: Normal, Warm, Hot or Extreme. The levels are our own estimate calculated from weather forecasts. They are not official warnings. For official heat warnings, check your national or local weather authority, for example mausam.imd.gov.in in India.

It does not have to. You can search for your city instead. If you tap "Use my location", the app asks for approximate (coarse) location only, reads it once while the app is open, and rounds it to about 11 km before it is used. If you turn on "Update with my location", it re-checks each time you open the app. It never uses location in the background, and it never asks for precise location.

Reminders are off until you turn them on in Settings. If they are on but do not appear, check these:

• Notification permission: on Android 13 and later, allow notifications for LifeBalance in Settings → Apps → LifeBalance → Notifications.
• Battery optimisation: some phones stop background work to save battery. Open Settings → Apps → LifeBalance → Battery and choose Unrestricted (or Not optimised). Phone makers name this differently.
• Wake and sleep times: reminders only come between them, and are skipped if you logged a drink recently.
• Do Not Disturb: check that it is not silencing the app.

Long-press an empty area of your home screen, choose Widgets, find LifeBalance and drag it to the screen. The widget shows your progress and has a button that adds 250 ml in one tap. Steps vary a little by phone maker.

It is optional and off by default. If you turn it on and grant permission, the app reads your steps and exercise for today and the recent past (to adjust today's goal and show your history), reads your sleep sessions, and writes the water you log into Health Connect. This data stays on your device. You can change the permissions at any time in Health Connect, and records the app wrote stay there until you delete them in Health Connect. See the privacy policy.

Water, Move, Sleep, Mind and Habits each fill a ring. The Balance score is the average of the areas you have switched on. An area with no data counts as zero only after 6 pm. You can turn areas off in Settings.

Add family members in Settings, then open Challenges, choose what counts (water, movement, sleep, check-ins, habits or Balance), who is in and how long. Everyone takes turns on the same phone and everything stays on the device. Shared result cards show only initials unless you switch on "Show names".

Use Settings, Backup & export to save a backup file, or connect Google Drive and back up there. LifeBalance saves to a hidden folder in your own Google Drive that only the app can open, and we never receive it. On the new phone, restore from the file or from Drive. Android's own cloud backup is turned off on purpose.

No. LifeBalance is free, with no ads, no account and no subscription. If it helps you, Settings has an optional tip jar. Tips are never required and unlock nothing.
