How we compare

One sale, the same inputs everywhere, each marketplace at its own defaults.

  • Every marketplace gets the same item price, item cost and label cost. Where the buyer pays the marketplace for postage (Vinted, Poshmark, Mercari), your shipping inputs follow that marketplace's own rules.
  • Everything else stays at that marketplace's own default: the usual category, the entry seller level, no ads and no boosts.
  • Fees come straight from each marketplace's calculator, so they match the full page for the same inputs and carry the same check date.
  • A marketplace shows only where we have its fees for that market.
What we assume for each marketplace
  • Etsy: a standard listing with listing, transaction and payment fees. No Offsite Ads, no currency conversion. Europe uses a shop in Germany.
  • eBay US and Canada: the most common category (not a store), no promoted listing, no sales tax, a seller at or above standard.
  • eBay UK and Australia: a private seller, which pays no selling fees. A business seller pays category fees, so check the full calculator if you sell as a business.
  • Depop: the standard fees for the market, no Boost, no sales tax. The buyer fee is paid by the buyer.
  • Vinted: no seller fee. The buyer pays the Vinted fee and usually the postage, so your shipping charged and label cost are left out, and you keep the item price minus your cost.
  • Whatnot: the default category, the Standard tier (no sales history), no sales tax. Selling is live or listed, and buyers come from Whatnot shows.
  • Poshmark: the buyer pays a flat shipping label, so your shipping inputs are left out. Free direct deposit, no hazmat, not a Texas seller.
  • Mercari: the buyer pays the shipping label (taken as your label cost) and the selling fee applies to it too. If you charge no shipping, you pay the label. Direct deposit.
  • Amazon: the Individual plan (a fee per item), you ship the order (FBM), the general category. FBA is a different model, so use the Amazon calculator for it.
  • Facebook Marketplace: shipped checkout in the US, which is the only place Meta offers it per Meta support. The 10% fee (minimum $0.80) is charged on item plus shipping, no sales tax. Local pickup has no selling fee, so it is not compared.
  • StockX: Level 1 (the starting level), the 3% processing fee and StockX's estimated seller shipping rate deducted from your payout, so your shipping inputs are left out. Balance payout, no debit card fee. It sells sneakers and streetwear, so it only suits those items.
  • GOAT: a US seller with a rating of 90 and above, the prepaid label seller fee (we picked prepaid, and drop-off is free in the US), and cash out on at 2.9% of earnings. Your shipping inputs are left out. It sells sneakers and streetwear, so it only suits those items.
  • Grailed: a domestic buyer, with the commission and processing charged on item plus the shipping you charge (no Grailed Label, which would leave shipping out of the commission). No promotions. It sells menswear and streetwear, so it only suits those items.
  • PayPal invoice: you find the buyer yourself. The payer sends the price plus shipping as a goods and services payment from the same country. Your label cost is added to your costs.
  • Own store (Shopify Basic): you find the buyer yourself. Monthly billing spread over 100 orders, Shopify Payments, no currency conversion. The plan share per order drops as you sell more.
Questions sellers ask

Comparing marketplaces

How is the ranking worked out?

Each marketplace runs your sale through its own fee calculator on Numford, using the same price, shipping and costs. The ranking is what you keep after that marketplace's fees and your own costs, highest first.

Why do Vinted and Poshmark look so strong?

Vinted charges the buyer, not you, and Poshmark takes its cut from the sale price while the buyer pays shipping. So less of your money goes to fees. The buyer sees a higher total there, which can change what they are willing to pay, so treat the ranking as a starting point.

Are ads, promoted listings and tax included?

No. Every marketplace is shown with its standard setup: the usual category, no promoted listing, no Offsite Ads, no Boost and no sales tax. Open the full calculator from any card to add them. Your values go with you.

Is the highest keep always the best place to sell?

No. It shows what each sale leaves you, not how many buyers come or how fast it sells. A marketplace with higher fees can still win if your item sells quicker or for more there. Own store and PayPal rows assume you bring the buyer yourself.
