The short answer
Meeting the buyer costs nothing in selling fees. Meta states that local pickup has no Marketplace selling fee, and it gives no country limit for that.
Shipped checkout is different: Meta takes 10% of the order, with a $0.80 minimum per order. The table shows both at six price points, with $6.50 shipping charged to the buyer and the same amount paid for the label.
| Item price | Selling fee (shipped) | You keep shipped | You keep at pickup |
|---|---|---|---|
| $10 | $1.65 | $8.35 | $10.00 |
| $20 | $2.65 | $17.35 | $20.00 |
| $30 | $3.65 | $26.35 | $30.00 |
| $60 | $6.65 | $53.35 | $60.00 |
| $120 | $12.65 | $107.35 | $120.00 |
| $250 | $25.65 | $224.35 | $250.00 |
Computed by the Facebook Marketplace calculator. Fees only, with no item cost and no sales tax. The pickup column is the item price, because there is no fee.
What the 10% is charged on
Meta describes the fee base as item price plus delivery fees plus applicable taxes. That means the fee is not only on what the item sold for.
On a $50.00 item the fee is $5.00 with no shipping. Add $6.50 of delivery and it becomes $5.65, and add 8% sales tax on top and it is $6.10.
The tax is not your income. You pay a fee on it, but you never receive it, so the effective rate on the item price is higher than 10%.
| What is counted | Fee base | Selling fee | Fee as a share of the item price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Item only | $50.00 | $5.00 | 10% |
| Item plus $6.50 shipping | $56.50 | $5.65 | 11.3% |
| Item, shipping and 8% tax | $61.02 | $6.10 | 12.2% |
A $50.00 item. The tax rate here is only an example: enter your buyer's rate in the calculator. We take tax as a percent of item plus shipping, rounded to the cent.
The minimum fee on cheap items
The $0.80 minimum applies once, to the order, not to each item. It bites when 10% of the fee base is under $0.80, which is any base under $8.00.
Below that the fee is flat, so it takes a larger share of a smaller sale. A $3.00 item with no shipping pays $0.80, which is 26.7% of the price.
Shipping charged lifts the base, so it can lift the fee too. A $3.00 item with $6.50 shipping is a $9.50 base, which is over the line, so it pays $0.95 rather than $0.80.
| Item price | Selling fee | Fee as a share of the price | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| $1.00 | $0.80 | 80% | $0.20 |
| $3.00 | $0.80 | 26.7% | $2.20 |
| $5.00 | $0.80 | 16% | $4.20 |
| $7.00 | $0.80 | 11.4% | $6.20 |
| $8.00 | $0.80 | 10% | $7.20 |
| $10.00 | $1.00 | 10% | $9.00 |
The fee equals 10% of the price from $8.00 up. Below it the $0.80 minimum applies.
What to list at for the amount you want
Work backwards from what you need to keep. The table gives the item price that leaves you the amount shown on a shipped order, with the buyer paying $6.50 shipping and your label costing the same.
To keep $50.00 you list at $56.28, which is $6.28 more than the amount you want. At pickup you list at exactly $50.00, because there is nothing to take.
| You want to keep | List price | Price above what you want to keep |
|---|---|---|
| $10.00 | $11.83 | $1.83 |
| $20.00 | $22.94 | $2.94 |
| $50.00 | $56.28 | $6.28 |
No item cost, no tax, shipping charged equal to the label.
What we could only confirm from Meta support
The 10% fee and the $0.80 minimum are on Meta's Seller Protection Policy page. Three other facts came from Meta's support assistant on the help center, which is not policy text.
- Availability. Checkout with shipping is only available in the US (not the UK, Canada, Australia or other regions).
- Payout timing. Initiated 15 days after the item is marked shipped or 5 days after delivery, then up to 5 more days to arrive.
- Seller Protection. A limit of $500 per order, with a 7 day shipping window.
What the tables leave out
- The chargeback fee of $20.00, which Meta lists but which only applies when a buyer disputes the payment.
- Carrier weight adjustments passed on to the seller after a label is bought.
- Marketplace ads and boosts, and Facebook Shops or Commerce Manager fees, which are a different product.
- Payment processing, which per Meta support is covered by the selling fee. Third-party processors you use outside Meta may charge their own.
Meta does not publish a rounding mode, so a statement can differ from our figures by a cent.
