Questions people ask

Stripe fees, answered

How much does Stripe take from a payment?

On a $100 domestic card payment in the US, Stripe's fee is $3.20 (3.2%), which is 2.9% + $0.30, and you keep $96.80. International cards and currency conversion add to that.

What do international cards and currency conversion cost in the US?

An international card adds 1.5%, so the same $100 payment costs $4.70 and you keep $95.30. If the payment also needs currency conversion, Stripe adds 1% more, so the fee is $5.70.

What are the Stripe fees in the UK?

Stripe charges 1.5% + £0.20 for standard UK cards and 2.8% + £0.20 for premium UK cards. European Economic Area cards cost 2.5% + £0.20 and other international cards 3.15% + £0.20, plus 2% if currency conversion is needed. On £100, that is £1.70, £3.00, £2.70 and £3.35, and £5.35 for an international card with conversion.

What are the Stripe fees in Ireland, Germany and France?

All three show the same online rates: 1.5% + €0.25 for standard European Economic Area cards and 2.8% + €0.25 for premium ones, 2.5% + €0.25 for UK cards and 3.15% + €0.25 for international cards. A €100 standard card payment costs €1.75.

What does Stripe charge in Canada, Australia, Singapore and India?

On a payment of 100 in local currency, a domestic card costs CA$3.20 in Canada (2.9% + CA$0.30), A$1.95 in Australia (1.65% + A$0.30, GST included) and S$3.90 in Singapore (3.4% + S$0.50). In India, Visa and Mastercard cards issued there cost 2%, which is ₹2.00 on ₹100.

What changes in Australia on 1 April 2027?

Stripe lowers its Australian international card fee from 3.5% + A$0.30 to 2.8% + A$0.30 on 1 April 2027. Its domestic card fee fell to 1.65% + A$0.30 on 1 October 2026. The calculator shows today's rates until the change takes effect.

How much do bank debits cost?

In the US, ACH Direct Debit is 0.8% capped at $5.00, so $100 costs $0.80 and $1,000.00 costs $5.00. Bacs Direct Debit in the UK is 1%, min £0.20, cap £4.00, which is £1.00 on £100. SEPA Direct Debit is a flat €0.35 in Ireland, Germany and France.

What does an instant payout cost?

Standard payouts are free. An instant payout in the US costs 1.5% of the amount paid out, with a $0.50 minimum. If you pay out the $96.80 left from the default payment, that is $1.45.

What does a dispute cost?

Stripe charges a dispute received fee of $15.00 in the US, £20.00 in the UK, €20.00 in Ireland, Germany and France, CA$15.00 in Canada, A$25.00 in Australia and ₹1,000.00 in India. The fee alone on the default payment takes your keep from $96.80 to $81.80, but the payment itself is also held during the dispute and is lost unless you win it. Responding manually adds a countered fee of the same amount, returned if you win.

Does Stripe return its fee on a refund?

No. Stripe does not charge a fee to refund a card payment, but the processing fees from the original payment are not returned.

How much should I charge to keep a set amount?

To keep $100 from a US domestic card payment, charge $103.30. For an international card, charge $104.91. Switch the calculator to "Find price" and it solves this for any country, card, payout or dispute.

How we checked every number

Every number on this page comes from one data file, checked against Stripe's own pricing pages for each country on 20 Oct 2026. The calculator, the worked example, the tables and the FAQ all read from it, so they cannot disagree.

Fees are rounded to the cent one at a time. Where Stripe's pages were unclear or we could not confirm a rate, we left the option out instead of guessing.

What we could not confirm or do not model

  • Stripe shows pricing by the visitor's location, and the US page was read with the country set to the United States. A visitor in another country may see a different page.
  • Canada and Singapore list their international card surcharge (0.8% and 0.5%) with an asterisk whose footnote was not in the page text we read. India lists its domestic card rate with the same kind of asterisk.
  • India's page also says domestic debit card payments carry a Merchant Discount Rate of 0.4% capped at ₹200. It does not say how that interacts with the 2% rate, so only the 2% rate is offered. Access in India is by invitation on Stripe's page.
  • Stripe does not say how it rounds each fee. The calculator rounds each fee half-up to the cent. Stripe's UK page calls its accelerated checkout "Onelink" in places, at the same rates as cards.
  • Where a card has an international surcharge it is shown as its own line on top of the domestic rate, as Stripe lists it. Where Stripe lists a separate total rate, that rate is used.
  • An instant payout fee is worked out on the amount paid out. The calculator assumes you pay out this payment's net amount after processing fees, in the same currency.
  • A dispute adds Stripe's dispute received fee. If you respond manually there is a countered fee of the same amount, which Stripe returns when you win. The disputed amount itself and the optional Smart Disputes fee are not modelled.
  • Manually entered cards, in-person Terminal and Tap to Pay, Klarna and other local methods, Stripe Billing, Tax, Invoicing, Connect and Managed Payments have their own rates and are not modelled.
  • Stripe Ireland shows no Terminal card rates, and Germany and France show the same online card rates as Ireland.
