How it works

Three steps to a title that fits

  1. 1Paste your titleType or paste one title, or paste a whole list with one title on each line to check a batch.
  2. 2Read every marketplace at onceEach row shows the count against that marketplace, a bar that turns amber and red, and the text beyond the limit highlighted. Tap a marketplace to focus on it.
  3. 3Fix and copyTrim to the limit at a word, fix spacing, switch the case, then copy the title for the marketplace you are listing on.
What each marketplace allows

Title limits and rules, from the marketplaces themselves

Everything in this table is taken from the marketplace's own help pages, linked in each row, last checked 21 October 2026. A rule is something the marketplace requires. Advice is something it recommends.

Good to know

How to write a good listing title

Put the most important words first. Say what the item is before anything else, then the details that decide whether it is the right one: brand, size, colour, material, pack size. Buyers skim, and a search result often cuts a long title short.

Write for a person first. A title that reads naturally ranks no worse than a string of keywords, and it earns more clicks. Say each thing once. A word repeated three times adds nothing and uses up space.

Leave out what has its own field. Price, shipping, postage, shop name and offers belong in the price and delivery boxes. They go out of date, and several marketplaces ask you to leave them out.

Keep it plain. Normal capitals, standard letters and numbers, and a comma or hyphen only where it helps. Emoji, stars and shouting in capitals look like clutter and some marketplaces do not allow them.

Use the room you have, but not all of it for the sake of it. A shorter title that is accurate and clear beats a full one padded with filler.

Counting

How the characters are counted

The checker counts what you see on screen. One letter, digit, space or punctuation mark is one character, an accented letter is one, and an emoji, a flag or a skin tone emoji is one. This follows the Unicode standard for a user-perceived character, and your browser does the counting.

No marketplace explains whether it counts this way, by Unicode code points or by the older UTF-16 units that count some emoji as two. For ordinary titles made of letters, numbers and spaces every method gives the same answer. If your title is full of emoji or rare symbols, treat the count as a guide and keep a few characters in hand.

Spaces count. Amazon says so in its own rule, and the checker counts spaces on every marketplace.

Privacy

Your titles stay on your device

Your titles are checked inside this page, on your device. They are not uploaded, stored on a server or sent anywhere.

If you tick "Remember my text on this device", the text is saved in your browser so it is there next time. Untick it, or press Clear, and it is deleted. By default nothing is saved.

Questions sellers ask

Listing titles and character limits

What is the eBay title character limit?

eBay says to write a clear title with correct spelling and no more than 80 characters, on both eBay US and eBay UK. The checker shows eBay as over the limit from the 81st character and highlights what would be cut.

How long can an Etsy title be?

Etsy allows up to 140 characters. Etsy also suggests fewer than 15 words, no repeated words, no opinion words such as "perfect", and no price or shipping details in the title. It adds that search engines such as Google show only the first 50 to 60 characters, so the key words should come first.

What is the Amazon title length now?

Amazon Seller Central now says titles must not exceed 75 characters, including spaces, for most product types. It also bans promotional phrases such as "free shipping", the characters ! $ ? _ { } ^ and two others, and any word used more than twice, apart from prepositions, articles and conjunctions. Details that no longer fit can go in the Item highlights field, which adds 125 characters.

What about Shopify, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Vinted, Walmart, Facebook Marketplace and Whatnot?

We could not confirm a title limit for these from the marketplaces' own pages, so the checker does not show one for them. Forum posts and third-party guides often quote numbers, and they go out of date. Use the Your own limit row: type the limit shown in your seller dashboard and the checker counts against it, clearly marked as your number.

Does the checker count emoji and accented letters the way the marketplace does?

It counts what you see: an accented letter is one character and an emoji is one character. Marketplaces do not say whether they count this way or by code units, which can count an emoji as two. For plain titles the answer is the same everywhere. If you use emoji, keep a few characters spare.

Why does the checker say a rule is "good practice" and not a rule?

Only what a marketplace states on its own help page is shown as that marketplace's rule, with a link to the page. Everything else is labelled as a tip from us. For example, eBay's pages we could read give a length but no ban on capitals, so capitals on eBay show as a tip, not a rule.

Can I check many titles at once?

Yes. Put one title on each line. The checker lists them with a coloured dot for the worst result, and you click a line to see its full check. Trim to limit, fix spacing and the case buttons apply to every line at once.

Are my titles sent anywhere?

No. The checking runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is saved unless you tick the box to remember your text, which keeps it in your own browser until you press Clear.
