Barcode and FNSKU label maker
UPC, EAN, Code 128 and QR barcodes, and Amazon FNSKU labels on sheets or a thermal roll. Nothing leaves this device.
This tool only draws a number you already have. UPC and EAN numbers are issued through GS1, so it never makes one up.

Print the test page at 100%, hold it against a sheet, and nudge the labels until they match.
Three steps to labels that scan
- 1Pick what to makeDraw a UPC-A, EAN-13, Code 128 or QR barcode, or paste a list of FNSKUs to make Amazon product labels.
- 2Choose the labelPick a sheet size or a thermal roll size, set which label to start on, and check the live preview. Warnings tell you when a label is too small.
- 3Download and printSave SVG or PNG, or a PDF at the exact paper size. Print at 100% and use the test page to line up your sheets.
How to make FNSKU labels
- In Seller Central, find the FNSKU of each product. It is a 10 character code that starts with an X, and it is on the label page of your shipment and in your inventory list.
- Paste one line per product into the FNSKU tab: the FNSKU, the product name, the condition and how many labels you need. Only the FNSKU is required.
- Pick the sheet or roll you have. If you are part way through a sheet, click the first free label so used ones are skipped.
- Download the PDF and print it at 100%, on a laser or thermal printer. Scan one label before you print the rest.
- Stick each label flat on the product, 0.25 inch in from the edge of the packaging, never on a curve or a corner, and cover any other barcode.
UPC, EAN and FNSKU: what is the difference?
- UPC-ATwelve digits. Used on products sold in the United States and Canada. A UPC-A is an EAN-13 with a leading 0.
- EAN-13Thirteen digits. Used on products sold in the rest of the world. Scanners read both UPC-A and EAN-13.
- FNSKUAmazon's own code for one of your products in Amazon's warehouses. Ten characters starting with an X. It belongs to your offer, not to the product, and it is printed as a Code 128 barcode.
Do I need to buy UPC codes?
A generator draws a barcode for a number you already have. It cannot make a UPC, because a UPC is a number that belongs to you, issued through GS1, the organisation that runs the system. Barcodes from anywhere else can clash with the real owner of that number.
You may not need one at all. If you sell on Amazon FBA and you are not the brand owner, Amazon requires its own FNSKU labels, which are free to print. If you own the brand and sell a product with its own packaging, you license numbers from GS1 in your country (GS1 US in the United States), and each size and colour needs its own number.
Check Amazon and the other marketplaces for what they ask of your category before you buy anything.
To license numbers, start at GS1 and pick your country.

Our own choices, not rules
- FNSKU symbologyCode 128. FNSKU barcodes are Code 128 in practice, but the Amazon pages we read do not name the symbology, so we call this our choice. Scan a test label before you print a big run.
- Sheet margins and spacingAmazon lists the label sizes and how many fit a page, not the margins. We use the common die-cut layout for each size. Sheets differ by about a millimetre between makers, so print the test page and use the nudge fields.
- Smallest barsWe warn when Code 128 bars come out narrower than 0.25 mm (two dots at 203 dpi) and when QR squares come out under 0.4 mm. GS1 sets its minimum only for UPC-A and EAN-13.
- Long product namesAmazon gives no label length for the name, so we fit it to the label and end it with an ellipsis when it is cut.
- Roll sizesThe roll sizes are our picks. Amazon gives a range of 1 x 2 inches to 2 x 3 inches, and we stay inside it.
Printing tips for labels that scan
- Print at 100%Choose Actual size or Scale 100% in the print window. Fit to page shrinks the bars and can make them unscannable. The test page has a ruler to prove it.
- Laser or thermal, not inkjetAmazon says to use thermal or laser printers, 300 dpi or better. Ink smears and fades on label stock.
- Use the right sheetPick the layout that matches your label sheet, then print the test page on plain paper and hold it against a sheet in front of a window.
- Black on white, then scanKeep the label white and the ink black, with no glossy cover. Scan one label with a phone or a barcode scanner before you stick a hundred.

Barcodes and FNSKU labels
Do I need to buy UPC codes to sell on Amazon?
Not always. Amazon requires its own FNSKU barcode stickers from resellers, and from any brand owner whose product cannot use its manufacturer barcode. Brand owners enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry can use manufacturer barcodes. If you do need UPC numbers, license them from GS1, which issues them worldwide through its member organisations, and check with Amazon first.
Can this tool create a UPC for my product?
No, and no honest generator can. A UPC or EAN is a number issued through GS1, and it belongs to one company. This tool draws the barcode for a number you already have, checks that the last digit is right, and offers to work out a missing check digit. It never invents a number.
What is an FNSKU and how is it different from a UPC?
A UPC or EAN identifies a product, and is the same wherever the product is sold. An FNSKU is Amazon's code for your units of that product in its warehouses. It starts with an X, and you find it in Seller Central. Your FNSKU label must have the FNSKU, the product name and the condition.
Which barcode type do FNSKU labels use?
FNSKU barcodes are Code 128, which is what this tool draws. The Amazon pages we read do not name the barcode type, so we treat this as our choice rather than an Amazon rule. Scan a test label with a phone or a scanner before you print a full sheet.
What size should FNSKU labels be?
Amazon says black ink on white, non-reflective labels with removable adhesive, between 1 x 2 inches and 2 x 3 inches. For laser printers it lists 21, 24, 27, 30, 40 and 44 labels per page. Those sheet layouts are all built in, and so are common thermal roll sizes.
Why will my printed barcode not scan?
The usual causes are a printer scaling the page (set it to Actual size or 100%), an inkjet printer, a glossy or reflective label, a label stuck on a curve, or a UPC drawn below 80% of its normal size. The test page and the live warnings in this tool catch the first and last of these.
How small can a UPC or EAN barcode be?
GS1 sets the bar width between 0.264 mm and 0.660 mm, which is 80% to 200% of the normal 37.29 mm wide symbol. This tool never draws a UPC-A or EAN-13 below 80%, and warns you when the label you picked is too small for it.
Are my numbers or product names uploaded anywhere?
No. The barcodes, labels and PDFs are made by your own browser, and nothing is sent to a server. Saving your list is off unless you tick Remember this list, and then it stays in this browser only.
