Full walkthrough

Stripe takes a percent of the amount the customer pays plus a fixed fee for each payment. Each fee is rounded to the smallest unit of CAD on its own, and amounts here are in CAD.

Here is one payment from the calculator above, worked through. A customer pays CA$100.00 with the domestic card to a Stripe account in Canada.

  • PaymentCA$100.00
  • Percent fee2.9% of CA$100.00-CA$2.90
  • Fixed feeCA$0.30 on each successful payment-CA$0.30
  • You keepCA$96.80

Stripe took CA$3.20 in fees, which is 3.2% of the payment. Standard payouts are free. An instant payout of the CA$96.80 left would cost CA$0.97 more.

Questions people ask

Stripe fees in Canada, answered

How much does Stripe charge in Canada?

On a payment of CA$100, a domestic card costs 2.9% + CA$0.30, which is CA$3.20, so you keep CA$96.80. An international card costs 3.7% + CA$0.30, which is CA$4.00. Standard payouts to your bank are free.

How much more do international cards cost on Stripe in Canada?

Stripe adds 0.8% for cards issued outside Canada, on top of the 2.9% + CA$0.30 domestic rate. On CA$100 that is CA$0.80 extra, so you keep CA$96.00 instead of CA$96.80. Stripe marks this surcharge with an asterisk whose footnote we could not read, so check it on your own account.

Does Stripe charge for currency conversion in Canada?

Stripe adds 2% when a payment needs currency conversion, for example when a US customer pays in US dollars and you are paid in Canadian dollars. An international card with conversion on CA$100 costs CA$6.00 (CA$4.00 card fee plus CA$2.00 conversion). The calculator offers the toggle on both card types.

How much is a pre-authorised debit on Stripe in Canada?

Pre-authorised debit is 1% + CA$0.40, cap CA$5.00. That is CA$1.40 on CA$100 and CA$5.00 on CA$1,000 because of the cap, where a domestic card would cost CA$29.30. Stripe also charges CA$1.00 per instant verification and CA$5.00 for failures and disputes on pre-authorised debits. Neither is included.

How much does a Stripe instant payout cost in Canada?

An instant payout is 1% of the amount paid out, with a CA$0.60 minimum. Pay out the CA$96.80 left from a domestic payment of CA$100 and the fee is CA$0.97. Standard payouts are free.

What is the Stripe dispute fee in Canada?

Stripe charges CA$15 for each dispute you receive. On a domestic payment of CA$100 that takes what you keep from CA$96.80 to CA$81.80 before the disputed payment itself, which is held and lost unless you win. Responding manually adds a countered fee of the same amount, returned if you win.

How much should I charge to keep a set amount after Stripe fees in Canada?

To keep CA$100 from a domestic card, charge CA$103.30. From an international card with currency conversion, charge CA$106.36. Switch the calculator to Find price and it solves this for any card, debit, payout or dispute.

How we checked every number

Every number on this page comes from one data file, checked against Stripe's own Canada pricing page on 20 Oct 2026. The calculator, the worked example, the tables and the FAQ all read from it, so they cannot disagree.

Fees are rounded one at a time. Where Stripe's page was unclear or we could not confirm a rate, we left the option out instead of guessing.

What we could not confirm or do not model

  • Stripe shows pricing by the visitor's location, and the US page was read with the country set to the United States. A visitor in another country may see a different page.
  • Canada and Singapore list their international card surcharge (0.8% and 0.5%) with an asterisk whose footnote was not in the page text we read. India lists its domestic card rate with the same kind of asterisk.
  • Stripe does not say how it rounds each fee. The calculator rounds each fee half-up to the cent. Stripe's UK page calls its accelerated checkout "Onelink" in places, at the same rates as cards.
  • Where a card has an international surcharge it is shown as its own line on top of the domestic rate, as Stripe lists it. Where Stripe lists a separate total rate, that rate is used.
  • An instant payout fee is worked out on the amount paid out. The calculator assumes you pay out this payment's net amount after processing fees, in the same currency.
  • A dispute adds Stripe's dispute received fee. If you respond manually there is a countered fee of the same amount, which Stripe returns when you win. The disputed amount itself and the optional Smart Disputes fee are not modelled.
  • Manually entered cards, in-person Terminal and Tap to Pay, Klarna and other local methods, Stripe Billing, Tax, Invoicing, Connect and Managed Payments have their own rates and are not modelled.
