Full walkthrough

Stripe takes a percent of the amount the customer pays plus a fixed fee for each payment. Each fee is rounded to the smallest unit of GBP on its own, and amounts here are in GBP.

Here is one payment from the calculator above, worked through. A customer pays £100.00 with the standard UK card to a Stripe account in United Kingdom.

  • Payment£100.00
  • Percent fee1.5% of £100.00-£1.50
  • Fixed fee£0.20 on each successful payment-£0.20
  • You keep£98.30

Stripe took £1.70 in fees, which is 1.7% of the payment. Standard payouts are free. An instant payout of the £98.30 left would cost £0.98 more.

Questions people ask

Stripe fees in the UK, answered

How much does Stripe charge in the UK?

On a payment of £100, a standard UK card costs 1.5% + £0.20, which is £1.70, so you keep £98.30. A premium UK card (2.8% + £0.20) costs £3.00, an EEA card (2.5% + £0.20) £2.70 and an international card (3.15% + £0.20) £3.35. Standard payouts to your bank are free.

What is the difference between standard and premium UK cards on Stripe?

Stripe prices each card by its type, and the type is set by the customer's card, not by you. A standard UK card is 1.5% + £0.20 and a premium UK card is 2.8% + £0.20, so on £100 the fee is £1.70 against £3.00. To keep £100, you would charge £101.73 for a standard card and £103.09 for a premium one.

Does Stripe charge for currency conversion in the UK?

Yes, when a payment needs converting. Stripe adds 2% on top of the card fee, and the calculator offers it on EEA and international cards. An international card with conversion on a payment of £100 costs £5.35 (£3.35 card fee plus £2.00 conversion). Standard and premium UK cards show no conversion fee.

How much is Bacs Direct Debit on Stripe?

Bacs Direct Debit is 1%, min £0.20, cap £4.00. A £10 payment costs £0.20 because of the minimum, £100 costs £1.00, and £1,000 costs £4.00 because of the cap. Compare that with £15.20 for a standard UK card on £1,000.

How much does a Stripe instant payout cost in the UK?

An instant payout is 1% of the amount paid out, with a £0.40 minimum. Pay out the £98.30 left from a standard payment of £100 and the fee is £0.98. Standard payouts are free.

What is the Stripe dispute fee in the UK?

Stripe charges £20 for each dispute you receive. On a standard payment of £100 that takes what you keep from £98.30 to £78.30 before the disputed payment itself, which is held and lost unless you win. Responding manually adds a countered fee of the same amount, returned if you win.

How much should I charge to keep a set amount after Stripe fees in the UK?

To keep £100 from a standard UK card, charge £101.73. From an international card with currency conversion, charge £105.64. Switch the calculator to Find price and it solves this for any card, bank debit, payout or dispute.

How we checked every number

Every number on this page comes from one data file, checked against Stripe's own United Kingdom pricing page on 20 Oct 2026. The calculator, the worked example, the tables and the FAQ all read from it, so they cannot disagree.

Fees are rounded one at a time. Where Stripe's page was unclear or we could not confirm a rate, we left the option out instead of guessing.

What we could not confirm or do not model

  • Stripe shows pricing by the visitor's location, and the US page was read with the country set to the United States. A visitor in another country may see a different page.
  • Stripe does not say how it rounds each fee. The calculator rounds each fee half-up to the cent. Stripe's UK page calls its accelerated checkout "Onelink" in places, at the same rates as cards.
  • Where a card has an international surcharge it is shown as its own line on top of the domestic rate, as Stripe lists it. Where Stripe lists a separate total rate, that rate is used.
  • An instant payout fee is worked out on the amount paid out. The calculator assumes you pay out this payment's net amount after processing fees, in the same currency.
  • A dispute adds Stripe's dispute received fee. If you respond manually there is a countered fee of the same amount, which Stripe returns when you win. The disputed amount itself and the optional Smart Disputes fee are not modelled.
  • Manually entered cards, in-person Terminal and Tap to Pay, Klarna and other local methods, Stripe Billing, Tax, Invoicing, Connect and Managed Payments have their own rates and are not modelled.
