Questions sellers ask

Whatnot fees for Australia sellers, answered

How much does Whatnot take from a sale in Australia?

On a A$35.00 trading card with A$6.95 shipping from a Australia seller on the Standard tier, Whatnot's fees come to A$4.32, which is 10.3% of the A$41.95 the buyer pays. That is A$2.80 commission at 8% plus A$1.52 payment processing.

Is there a free Whatnot fee calculator for Australia sellers?

Yes. This page is one. It opens in AUD with the Australia commission and processing rules already set, so you can change the price, your category and your tier and see what you keep. It needs no account and no payment.

What is Whatnot's commission rate in Australia?

It depends on your category and your tier, and your total sales over the last 4 weeks set the tier. Trading cards start at 8% on the Standard tier and fall to 6.5% at A$130,000 or more in 4 weeks. On the A$41.95 order that would leave you A$22.65 instead of A$22.13. The Standard rate is the same as the 8% US sellers pay.

What is the Whatnot payment processing fee in Australia?

2.9% plus A$0.30 per order. It is charged on the full amount the buyer pays: item, shipping and tax. With 10% sales tax on the example order, processing rises from A$1.52 to A$1.64. Commission is not charged on shipping or tax.

Does Whatnot charge fees on sales tax in Australia?

Processing does. Whatnot charges 2.9% plus A$0.30 on everything the buyer pays, which includes shipping and tax. Commission does not: it is charged on the item price only. Use the sales tax field to include tax in the processing fee. The Whatnot pages we read state no separate tax rule for Australia, so none is added.

Does the Whatnot high-value order promotion apply in Australia?

Yes, in the listed categories. Whatnot charges 0% commission on the part of an order above A$1,500, for a limited time with no published end date. A A$2,000.00 trading card on the Standard tier pays A$120.00 commission instead of A$160.00. Processing is still charged on the full order.

Are Whatnot fees higher in Australia than in the US?

The Standard commission on trading cards is 8% in Australia and 8% in the US. Processing is 2.9% + A$0.30 here and 2.9% + $0.30 in the US. The comparison table runs a typical sale in each country through the same engine.

How we checked every number

Every number on this page comes from one data file, checked against Whatnot's own help pages on 19 Oct 2026. The calculator, the worked example, the tables and the FAQ all read from it, so they cannot disagree. The Australia rates are the "Australia" column of Whatnot's seller fee page.

Fees are rounded one at a time. Where a Whatnot page was unclear or we could not confirm a rate, we left the option out instead of guessing.

What we could not confirm or do not model

  • Electronics is not a separate category in the new commission card and Whatnot does not say where it falls, so it is not offered. It is probably under Other, but that is unconfirmed.
  • Rates as low as 3% are custom and set by an account manager, so they are not offered.
  • The tier bounds are listed per market without a currency, so we read them as sales in that market currency.
  • Canada and Australia state the processing fixed fee as "$0.30" without naming the currency. We show it in local currency.
  • Whatnot does not say whether the high-value threshold is checked on item price or on the whole order. We check it against the item price, which is the commission base.
  • Boosts and other Promote tools are bid or budget based with no price list, so they are not offered.
  • Short promotions, such as a 0% week for Australian Fashion sellers from 18 to 24 Oct 2026, are not modeled as standing rates.
  • Cancellation fees and Japan are not covered.
  • The Whatnot pages we read state no VAT or sales tax rule for fees in Australia, so no tax is added to commission or processing. Buyer sales tax only enters the calculator as part of the processing base, through the sales tax field.
